The longest running musical, Les Misérables, has finally returned to Singapore after 25 years! With a brand new adaptation by Cameron Mackintosh, the widely read novel is being brought on to stages across the globe, featuring a new UK and Australian cast.
On board the cast are actors like Simon Gleeson as Jean Valjean, Kerrie Anne Greenland as Eponine and many more. It took three years of hard work to produce and train for their respective roles. “One of the biggest challenges, funny enough, was when Cameron Mackintosh first cast me. He said: 'Look, we’re going to send you to the gym.' So for me, it was putting on 12 kilos of weight on, and that took a lot of time," says Gleeson.
With the dazzlingly reimagined scenery, modernized staging and orchestrations, audiences can immerse themselves into the musical, experiencing an uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit in 19th-century France.
Despite performing this many times, their love for the musical resonates with the audience. “You find something new every single night. That’s why people come to watch it over and over again, and that’s why it’s fresh for us,” says Greenland.
