The RC kites are the local invention of Singaporean Michael Lim, 58, founder of GoFlyKite.com. As a passionate young boy, Michael spent most of him free time flying remote control planes.
Speaking to the CATCH! Team at the I Light Marina Bay 2016, he explained more about this interest of his.
“I enjoyed flying remote control planes, cars and boats when I was younger. However, such toys were quite expensive and very costly back then. Of course, it would have been better if more people joined in, but not many could afford it then.”
15 years ago, Michael opened up the company as he aspired to develop something affordable and new for everyone. Prior to this business, he spent more than 20 years operating his very own jewellery company.
His company has managed to change history by being the first in the world to invent a kite with no string and his kites are recognized worldwide as a Singaporean creation. He admits that it feels really great to receive such positive feedback.
“Because of this, we tell our flyers and even our customers that when they fly this product, they are not just flying a product, but also supporting a local invention.”
Michael expressed his gratitude for the ever-growing support that his company has received. He hopes that people continuously support this local invention.
With pride, he ended off by mentioning the slogan that his team stands by and believes in, “How we go, how we fly. Whenever we go, we light up the sky. When you learn, don’t be shy. At GoFlyKite, we never say die.”
