With the constant growth of the English language, we are introduced to over a thousand new words a year. New words are a wonderful thing to learn because they keep us up to date with the ever-changing times and show us the true beauty of language.

According to the Oxford dictionary, here are four of the most interesting words that were introduced in 2017.

1. Hangry

Have you ever felt irritated or angry because you haven't had a meal?

This is the perfect word when you're hungry and feelin' a bit angsty.

2. Yaaas

The slang version of a super-excited yes! Users are meant to drag out the a in the word as an expression of excitement and approval.

3. Squad Goal

First coined by Taylor Swift and her group of equally famous friends such as Gigi Hadid and Cara Delevinge, squad goal is used in reference to a group of friends one may aspire to emulate. As in,“This photo is the best case of squad goals I’ve ever seen.”

4. Mx

If you’ve had a tough time figuring out which title to use when addressing someone then look no further than Mx. The word is now the new prefix for a person’s surname. As it ambiguette gender identity, it is equally appropriate to use for both male and female and even those who don’t identify either!
