In this issue of CATCH, we hope to capture the passage of time and present to you an issue from the past, present and our take on the possibilities of the future.

Our cover story features two club deejays from two periods of time – DJ Inquisitive and DJ Armstrong who have been active since the 1980s. They tell us how nightlife has transgressed from the past (page 22).

They say beauty is subjective and it couldn't be more evident than through our story on how ‘fashion rebels’ carved their own paths and made fashion their own (page 8).

With hawker culture being deeply entrenched in Singapore’s history, there are still concerns about its future. We met with a second generation hawker stall owner, Melvin Chew, to find out how he innovates to keep up with changing times (page 29).

We can only say that this issue might perhaps help you realise how time is an undefinable paradox. The past is gone, the future is now and while we try to define time, like lightning, it exists and expires all at once.

With this issue, the CATCH team hopes to let you capture a glimpse of our past and fuel our hopes for the future – our future.

Cheers,

Natasha Chng
