Burn Baby Burn!

In Singapore, wood-fired restaurants are scarce. That’s why after Firepit opened its doors in April 2021, they won the hearts of many locals with their unparalleled dishes. Situated on the roadside of Kampong Bahru, this unassuming eatery, which serves invigorating Mediterranean food, is one you’d least expect to find a fire pit in.

Before the existence of stoves, people often used hearths — fire pits lined with bricks or stones — to raise their breads and roast their meat. Therefore, Firepit takes inspiration from this style of cooking in order to capture flavours from the past.

I later found out that Firepit also makes a majority, if not all, of their foods in-house. This includes the smallest of ingredients — from their pickles, down to the tomato sauce for the pizza.

Firepit’s carefully curated food menu features a variety of foods, from breads and rice bowls, to smoked meats and wood-fired pizzas. For those with dietary restrictions, fret not — Firepit also has many gluten-free and vegan-friendly options

Flatbread with Artichoke Dip

To start off, we got the Turkish flatbread with Artichoke & Burrata Dip ($12).

The moment it was taken out of the fire pit, the enticing aroma of freshly-baked Turkish bread permeated the restaurant. Along with it came the artichoke dip, which I was initially rather sceptical about as it looked plain and unappetising.

Boy, was I wrong.

I took a bite of the hot bread, plunged it into the flavourful dip and it was simply divine!

To my surprise, it was absolutely delicious! Paired with the warm flatbread, the creamy and thick dip melts almost instantly in your mouth.

Verdict: This is definitely a must-try! It’s a good, unique starter to be shared amongst your friends and family.

Artichoke & Mushroom Pizza

Next, we got the highly-raved-about Artichoke & Mushroom Pizza ($24). Topped with only the freshest ingredients, Firepit’s wood-fired pizzas offer a distinct, smoky flavour that is hard to be replicated in conventional ovens.

Charred to perfection, there is an explosion of flavour in every bite that pairs well together. You get the freshness of the pizza dough, the sweetness of the tomato sauce and artichokes, the creaminess of the cheese, and the juiciness of the mushrooms.

Verdict: This pizza flavour is mind-blowingly good! Crust me, there’s no way you won’t like this.

Classic Tiramisu

No matter how full you are, there’s always room for dessert. Up your Instagram game with this beautiful bowl — not a plate — of tiramisu.

We got the Classic Tiramisu ($12), topped with fresh strawberries, blueberries and a dash of cocoa powder.

Despite its appealing presentation, I felt that the tiramisu was outshined by the first two dishes. I wished that the taste of espresso, cocoa and cheese was more prominent so that they could complement one another better. Small as the portion was, the tiramisu was a tasty dessert to end our dinner.

Verdict: Perfect for people with subtle palates!
